Artwork
Being an architect, Wynand Claassen is also an accomplished artist, where his talents extend to pen and ink sketches, as well as oil paintings, which include portraits, landscapes and studies of historical buildings. His first solo exhibition, which proved a great success, was held at the SFW Centre in Cape Town’s Golden Acre complex in 1982. He also held exhibitions in Sasolburg and Standerton.
On the Springbok team’s return from New Zealand in 1981, Wynand (as the captain) turned his artistic abilities to caricatures of his team mates. The sale of these drawings through BP-outlets, raised R27.000 for the Chris Burger Players’ Memorial Fund, which was established to help players suffering severe injuries.
